After reading Titu's agony over his daughter's suffering I began to to think that Shakespeare had an underlying message about being a parent. Comparing Titus and Tamora, do you think they were equally genuine as parents towards their children?
I agree with Hye, Tamora is more of a genuine parent the Titus. In the play we see that she has a close bond to her children unlike Titus does with his. Tamora goes after Titus in order to get revenge for her son and her sons defend her when they are told she was in danger by Aaron. While Titus creates a extended relationship with his children through his actions: he kills his son for the honor of the state and treats his daughter as property. Once Titus looses two more sons and finds his daughter mutilated he finally bares the feelings that parent should have for their children even though its to late to show his affection for them.I think the message Shakespear is trying to establish about parenting is that parents should show their affection towards their children while they can.

ReplyDeleteI think that Tamora is more genuine as a parent because Titus kills his son for the sake of the empire.
