Discussion of Darryl B. Hill's "“ “Feminine” Heterosexual Men: Subverting Heteropatriarchal Sexual Scripts?” The Journal of Men’s Studies 14.2 (Spring 2006): 145-159. Academic OneFile. Web. 2 Jan 2012.

Opinion of the author/ does the author criticize "feminine men" or "gay men"-???

Ideal heterosexual male/masculinity- images in media of men in ancient Roman times-Spartacus
Masculine women- the wife from "Night Thoughts" and girl from "Hills Like White Elephants"

"Sissy DNA" and "natural order"-???

feminine men as responsible fathers and husbands- is husband/father from "Night Thoughts" an example of this

women would/should enter in both short and long term relationships with feminine men-???

'bad boy' vs. 'nice guy'- masculine vs. feminine man?
'nice guy' as a last resort- women also love improvement projects (i.e. turn 'bad boys' into 'nice guys')

person's characteristics--> sexual orientation?-???

categories are dangerous and based on stereotypes-

can you tell a person's sexual orientation by looking at them?-

why are we looking to science to explain/solve this- science defines what is a man and what is a woman

pet names or nick names or labels/categories (modern man, feminine man, metrosexual, modern dandy)=name calling, we use categories to understand people

are any of these positive? negative?- mostly negative

labels effect men's self-esteem- a man seems to be seen as less masculine, less of a man
