Hills Like White Elephants

Do you believe that the man is fully interested in the lady? After reading this story I wasn't fully convinced. I feel as If this couple never agree on anything & their personalities are different. The man likes to drink and the lady doesn't know much about beers & liqour. She's rather dependent of him especially when she doesn't understand the english language and needs it to be translated. Do you believe she is living in her own little fantasy? Do you believe everything that she mentions sounds quite strange to the man? I found that he questions her a lot as If he wasn't quite understanding "the hills like elephants"
