"Theme for English B" By Langston Hughes
This twenty-two year old young man was given a assignment to write a one page that is about himself and it will be true. The writing doesn't seem hard to do to the young man. Did his teacher give him this assignment to see how he feels about being the only black student in his college class?

This is a great point- writing comes naturally to the speaker. I like your question and we should discuss it in class- what is the instructor trying to accomplish/find out by giving this assignment to the student? Also, I wonder if the speaker is the only student that the instructor assigned this topic to write about or were all students asked to complete this assignment?
ReplyDeleteI was also curious to know if he was the only student assigned this writing as well. It kind seems like he was because he seems singled out in his writing but this might be for other reasons.
