Night Thoughts
Witnessing the role reversal in "Night Thoughts" was uncomfortable for some reason for me. The natural feeling is to expect the woman to be the one taking care of the family and feeling neglected and for the man to be in charge and complacent, and the author decided to switch it up one us. Do you think this was her goal?

I think that the author's goal was to switch the gender roles for this particular family to make us feel uncomfortable. The narrator of the story, the man, was in a sterotypical "woman role". He is the caretaker of the children, not involved in the money desicions, comparing himself to younger men. I think the author was trying to make the readers uncomfortable about a man thinking these thoughts because if we as readers don't feel comfortable with men feeling like this than we shouldn't feel comfortable with women feeling like it.
