In the short story "Theme for English B" by Langston Hughes, the "colored" 22 yr old man is begining to understand life and accepting himself for who he is. He seems very happy and even makes a statement that no matter what color we are, we will always need help from one another. Do you think that this 22 yr old man is happy with himself and his life?
The two readings for today are poems, not short stories.
ReplyDeleteAs for your question regarding the speaker in Soto's poem, reread the poem. Think about who the speaker is. His boss sees him as a Mexican man but the speaker says he is American.
In the Hughes' poem the speaker seems quite content with himself as for his life, that is up to the reader's interpretation. What do you think?
