to his coy mistress

The man in this poem is definetly masculine. he is basically trying to minipulate the "shy" woman into having sex with him. He is telling her that they should have sex before they die and that time i running out. It seems to me like this man is just a player. Do u guys think he is a player?

  1. I believe that this guy is a player, i don't know how long they know each other but if (coy) stand for shyness of the girl it indicates it's not that long to be asking for sex,he is hitting on her big time. It can be also something normal considering the time the author lived in, i guess back than most of things were done in a barbaric manner.

  2. i think he is a player because of his use of words. He's basically sweet-talking her in a seductive way. Thats a characteristic that most players have.

  3. Brianna, your question really brings this poem into the context of the 21st century. So I ask, if women-as you and Jocelyn did-can pick out a player by just what he says, why do women fall for the player's game, lines?
Greg- yes the speaker becomes more insistent as the poem continues, but I'm a bit unclear by what you mean when you say the 17th century was a time when courtship was done in a "barbaric manner"? what do you mean by this?
